Jaymun M. Kaat

July 12, 2006 - October 13, 2009

Jaymun M. Kaat, age 3, of N2319 Hwy.28, Adell, died on Tuesday morning, October 13, 2009 at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee after a courageous three year battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
He was born in Sheboygan on July 12, 2006, son of Dave and Jennifer (Habeck) Kaat. Immediately following his birth, he was diagnosed with congenital leukemia and began chemotherapy treatment at just three weeks of age. His sweet, exuberant spirit was always present throughout his years of cancer treatment and he was famous for his joyful and feisty nature amongst the medical staff of Children’s Hospital.
Jaymun especially loved playing with his large collection of trains and he could recite every Thomas the Train character by name. He had a deep love for crocodiles and was granted a special trip to Gatorland by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Wisconsin. Shortly thereafter, he was asked to be the Make-A-Wish representative for their fall fundraiser. He loved playing outdoors, especially digging in the sandbox with his brothers and going for nature hikes in the woods to forage for pinecones or sticks, usually with his beloved puppy Tucker trailing behind. He enjoyed watching movies and especially loved Spongebob Squarepants, Thomas the Train, Elmo and A Bug’s Life. Jaymun could often be found “cooking” in his play kitchen, wearing his chef’s hat and mixing up a pot of marshmallows for his family to enjoy. He delighted in gathering around the table for family meals. His favorite foods were mac ‘n’ cheese, any kind of pasta, Elmo oatmeal with sliced peaches, rice pudding, watermelon and ice cream. He loved to snuggle and have his favorite books read to him over and over. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, no matter what the activity. Our favorite sound was his infectious laughter filling the house as he chased his brothers around or piled on top of them while making forts. Jaymun loved to request them to turn on music so they could dance around exuberantly together. He will be remembered best for his ability to make others feel special as he would exclaim “Sanks!” in great appreciation for any little gift or gesture shown to him as he did his happy feet dance. No one came through the door without being greeted with a cheerful smile and hug from our Jaymun as though they had been gone for years instead of just mere hours.
Jaymun was daily surrounded by love and happiness and he was unaware of his leukemia diagnosis. All who met him felt as though they had been warmed by a ray of sunshine. He lived life to the fullest and was always on the go, making every minute of his life an adventure. His enthusiasm was contagious and his extraordinary story touched many people’s lives because of his medical miracles (to learn more, please visit his website at www.jaymun.com). His trademark became his head full of wild, curly hair. He loved to laugh and was affectionate with all he met, often taking complete strangers by the hand to show them around or bringing his favorite treasures over to share with them. He was the light of our lives and will be deeply missed forever. We consider ourselves to be all the more blessed for having him in our lives for three years.
Survivors include his parents, Dave and Jennifer Kaat; his brothers, Benjamin, Devon and Sean and his sister, Kirsten; grandparents Richard and Nelly Kaat of Bruce Crossing, MI and Ray and Suzanne Habeck of Waldo; greatgrandfather Wilbur Habeck of Plymouth; aunts, uncles, cousins and many other relatives, friends and countless medical staff we considered to be part of Jaymun’s family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 P.M. at Christian Life Assembly of God Church, 933 Krumery St., Plymouth, WI. Rev. Richard L. York, Senior Pastor, will officiate. Burial will take place in Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery, Town of Sherman. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church on Monday from 3 – 7 P.M. and at the church on Tuesday from 12 noon until the time of service.
