Biography


LT. CMDR. Richard B. Strysick, 78, a resident of Sunny Ridge Nursing Home, died there Monday morning, February 22, 2010.
Richard was born April 22, 1931 in Sheboygan to Leslie and Leona (Nickisch) Strysick. He attended local elementary schools before graduating from Sheboygan Central High School, Class of 1949.
He was formerly married to Pamela Idhe of Florida.
Richard served his country in the U.S. Navy for 22 years aboard a number of Navy vessels including the USS Long Beach, a nuclear powered cruiser. Richard “came up through the ranks” and retired as Lt. Commander in 1970.
Following his military career, he was employed at American Express Co. in Plantation, Florida.
Mr. Strysick was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls, V.F.W. Sheboygan Memorial Post 9156, and V.F.W. Wolf Olson Post 1230, where he served as post commander.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille, a resident of Morningside Health Center; five children, Teka Strysick of Maryland, Devonne Strysick of England, Cena Hartman of Georgia, Mark Strysick of Florida and Inez Strysick of Florida; four grandchildren, Eric, John, Pamela and James; two great-grandchildren, Leslie and James; a sister, Marlene ( Jonas) Brach of Waukesha; sisters-in-law, Donna Strysick and Delores Gibson; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by two brothers, Leslie Jr. and Ronald H. Strysick.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 A.M. at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels. Rev. Mark J. Janzen, Associate Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sheboygan Falls, will officiate. Burial will take place in Lutheran Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held at Ballhorn Chapels on Thursday from 5 – 7 P.M. and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
