Biography

Helmuth E. Gruenert, 96, of 2323 N. 22nd St., died at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice on Thursday morning, February 25, 2010 surrounded by his family.
Helmuth was born April 4, 1913 in Berlin, Germany to Emil and Clara (Zimmerman) Gruenert.
On September 15, 1948 Helmuth was united in marriage to his wife of 62 years, Katharina Deffren in Dortmund, Germany. In January of 1954, his family came to the United States and settled in Sheboygan. Helmuth was employed as a butcher at Herziger’s Meat Market and in 1962 began his career as a machinist at Hayssen Mfg. Co. until his retirement in April of 1978.
Helmuth enjoyed spending time with his family, the outdoors, and discussing philosophy. He had an engaging personality that endeared him to everyone he came in contact with.
In addition to his wife, Katharina, Helmuth is survived by two children, Dr. Dieter (Carole) Gruenert of Mill Valley, California and Beverly (David) Lindsley of Sheboygan, his grandchildren, Aaron, Jordan and Lukas Gruenert of Mill Valley, CA, Michael Lindsley of Waldo and Stefanie Lindsley of Sheboygan, along with other family in Germany.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters.
A private family observance will take place.
Memorial gifts may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
The family extends their thanks to the caregivers at Sunny Ridge Nursing Home and Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for their kindness and support.
Helmuth will always be remembered for his enjoyment of art, music, and reading, as well as his caring nature and positive outlook on life.
