Danny Lee Austreng, age 79, was welcomed into the arms of angels on Thursday, July 9, 2026. He was born in Sheboygan on February 23, 1947, to the late Stanley and Shirley (Meinhardt) Austreng. He was a student at St. Paul’s Lutheran School, and a 1965 graduate of North High School. He attended the Humbolt Institute in Minneapolis from 1965-1966. Danny served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1968-1971, earning a bronze star and purple heart in Vietnam. On April 15, 1972, he married the love of his life, Kristine Stoelb. Together they raised two daughters: Michelle and Susanna.

Danny was a hard worker all of his life. He was employed with the Chicago Railroad prior to serving his country in the Army. He then worked for the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier for many years, and retired from there. He was very active in the Sheboygan community, becoming a founding member of the Wisconsin Traditional Archers, was active in the Wisconsin Bowhunters Association, the Sheboygan Model Railroad Museum, and an honorary member of the Whitetail Bow Hunters Club. He loved hunting and was an avid outdoorsman, frequently hunting with his dad and brothers in Florence, Wisconsin. His family remembers fondly their summer camping trips to Eagle River and the U.P., where a lifetime of memories were made. Following his retirement, he continued being active in his hunting clubs and spending time hunting with friends in Wisconsin and in Colorado. Danny was a doting dad and grandpa, and loved to spoil his grandchildren. He and Kristine liked to travel together and enjoyed making memories with their extended family. Danny will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. The world could use more people like Danny.

Danny is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kristine, and their children: Michelle (Aaron) Wachtendonk, and Susanna (Luis Saavedra III) Austreng; his grandchildren Lauren and Alyssa Wachtendonk, and Bella Austreng; his brothers Mike (JoAnn), Scott, and Tim (Doris) Austreng, and his sister Kathy (Gregg) Rusch; his brothers-in-law Tom (Mary Jo) and John Stoelb. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Danny is preceded is death by his brother Steve Austreng, and his parents-in-law Norman and Natalie Stoelb.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their care of Danny and his family. Their warmth and compassion will not be forgotten.

A memorial service to honor Danny’s life will take place at Ballhorn Chapels, 1201 N. 8th St. Sheboygan on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 12:00 p.m., with Chaplin Donald Blomberg officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
