Obituary

John W. Hochrein, age 83, of Sheboygan passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee.

He was born in Fond du Lac, WI on January 1, 1943, to the late Joseph and Lillian (Immel) Hochrein. He graduated from South High School and in 1964, married the love of his life, Billie Carpenter. John was a faithful member of the Sheboygan Evangelical Free Church, where his faith in Jesus Christ was central to everything he was.

John founded and operated Hochrein Floor Sanding until his retirement. He was a natural storyteller who could hold a room with countless stories, and he was always happy when out on the water fishing or in the woods hunting. He loved being out in God's creation and, above all else, he loved the Lord and his family deeply and made sure they knew it.

John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Billie; sons, Daniel Hochrein (Joanne) and Joe (Michelle) Hochrein; daughter, Sara Hochrein (Rhonda); five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Connie Ystesund and Cheryl Anderson; and his beloved nephews and nieces.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Hochrein, and son, Michael Hochrein.

A Celebration of Life for John will take place on Friday, June 19th at 2:00 PM at the Sheboygan Evangelical Free Church, 1710 N 15th St. in Sheboygan, with Pastor Jon MacDonald officiating. Family will greet visitors on Friday at the church from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. John will be laid to rest at Greendale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in John's name.
