Edward "Shorty" Zill, 89, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Hospital. Shorty was born February 4, 1923 in the Town of Centerville, to the late Hilbert and Ella (Wilke) Zill. He attended Lafollette School. On May 22, 1954 he married Mary Jane Leschke at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Manitowoc. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kiel. He worked for the Cleveland Co-op for nine years and retired from the Kohler Company as a member of the Quarter Century Club, after 26 years in the Ground Coat Division. He was also a retired volunteer firefighter with the Cleveland Fire Department and a member of the Cleveland Senior Citizens Club. He was an avid gardener, fisherman and card player. In addition to his wife Mary Jane, he is survived by his children; James (Wendy) Zill of New Franken and Nancy (David) Smits of DePere, his grandchildren; Joshua and Benjamin Zill, and Matthew and Bradley Smits, his brother Richard (Marilyn) Zill of Manitowoc, and his sister LaVerne (Larry) Scharenbroch of Newton. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Joyce Grau of Southern Pines, NC, his brother-in-law LeRoy Herman of Wauwatosa and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter Barbara in 1966, his brother Adrian, and his in-laws, Stanley and Emily Leschke and Pat Herman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Edward Thursday, December 13, 2012, at 6:00 P.M., at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill. The Reverend Patrick Nelson, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Friends may call on Thursday, at the church from 3:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will take place at St. Wendel Cemetery in Cleveland. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
