d. December 14, 2012

Mary Ann Hess, 85, of Sheboygan died at her home on Friday, December 14th after a lengthy illness. Mary Ann was born in Sheboygan on October 30, 1927 to the late William and Sylvia (Brunmeier) Holfeltz. She attended North High School and then worked as a waitress at Baack's Drug Store, as a roller at the Tinsel Factory, and as an inspector and wrapper at the Polar Ware Company. She met her future husband, Ken, at the popular Holy Name Dry Dock, a gathering place for young adults. On July 15, 1950 she married Kenneth G. Hess at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mary Ann and Ken enjoyed life in their castle here in "God's Country", raising a family, and growing older together until his death on August 8, 1998. Mary Ann loved flowers, cooking, baking, sewing, and time spent camping at Lake Winnebago. She also delighted in her grandchildren for whom she provided loving care throughout their infancy and childhood. They always had a special place in her heart. Mary Ann suffered much physically since her childhood. But what those around her saw most often were her tremendous inner strength, courage, and quiet spirit. Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Sandra Marotz (William) of Green Bay, and two sons, Kenneth (Susan), and Joseph (special friend, Pamela Niemi) both of Sheboygan. She is also survived by two brothers, Kenneth (Donna), and Michael, and one brother-in-law, Clarence Senkbeil , all of Sheboygan. Mary Ann is further survived by six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, William & Sylvia Holfeltz, husband, Kenneth Hess, sister, Dorothy Senkbeil, sister-in law, Carol Holfeltz, aunts and uncles. Services for Mary Ann Hess will be held on Tuesday, December 18th at 7:30 pm at Zimmer's Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center, (Hwy 42 and County JJ, Howards Grove) with Deacon Michael Burch officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:30 until the time of the service. Entombment will be at Gardens of Peace Mausoleum. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
