Betty Jane Becker, age 87, was born to eternal life on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Sheboygan Senior Community. She was born March 17, 1926, in Milwaukee, to parents Arthur and Helen (Liss) Pochert. Betty graduated Salutatorian from Custer High School in Milwaukee, being voted "girl most likely to succeed." She was united in marriage to Leonard Becker on August 11, 1951. Betty worked at Robert Hoag Real Estate in Milwaukee for 42 years as a bookkeeper. She also worked in her home office providing secretarial services to professionals. Betty worked from 1970 until her retirement in 1990 at Acuity Insurance Co. Betty was a freelance writer and published many poems and essays. She belonged to Sheboygan County Writers Club and was past president. Betty spent time volunteering on various committees for the Sheboygan Historical Society. She also enjoyed selling crafts at Homespun Post. Betty was a Green Bay Packer fan and spent time doing puzzles, traveling, reading, and visiting family. Betty is lovingly remembered by her husband Leonard "Len", four children; Wayne (Samantha), Martin, Patricia (Charles) Batter and Barbara (Michael) Shangraw, six grandchildren; Matthew, Celanire and Rachel Shangraw and Brittany, Alex and Zach Becker. Betty is survived by sister Joan (James) Coleman, and sister-in-law Isabel Pochert. She was greatly loved by other relatives and many friends. Preceded in death by her parents and brother Arthur Pochert. Visitation at Zimmer Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center (Hwy 42 & JJ, Howards Grove) on Sunday, January 12, from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2113 N. 22nd St., Sheboygan on Monday, January 13, at 10:30 AM, with Fr. Philip Reifenberg presiding. Entombment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. A special thanks to the entire staff at Sheboygan Senior Community Center and the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for their care and support.
