Carol Leuck

June 27, 1951 — August 10, 2017

The chariots came and swung low on the morning of Thursday, August 10,2017 for Carol Jean Leuck. She was born June 27, 1951 in Sheboygan to Robert and Jean (Weber) Leuck. She attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School and was a graduate of Sheboygan South High School, Class of 1969. She was an accomplished pianist, gave music lessons at Dietz Music and subbed as organist at three local churches. Following graduation, Carol attended UW-Sheboygan where she majored in music.
Carol met and married the love of her life, Chuck Hurtienne, and together began their journey through life. This encompassed establishing a successful leather business which afforded them the opportunity to follow their dream of a self-sufficient hobby farm in Irma, Wisconsin and an exciting leather business in Key West, Florida where they welcomed their only child, Kizo, in 1977.
Unexpectedly, Carol suffered a massive aneurysm in 1979, which left her in a coma for six months which altered life's path for them. Miraculously, Carol awoke from her coma and began the long struggle to regain a quality of life and the goal of guiding her son through childhood, which she achieved. One of Kizo's fond memories of his childhood with his mother was putting on John Cougar Mellencamp records and dancing and singing along together. Even in her latter life Carol was still able to play a classical tune for her sister on her mother's piano.
In spite of her disability Carol had multiple interests which influenced those around her. She embraced nature, horses, and all of God's creatures. She treasured recreating the recipes passed down from her Italian in-laws as well as the traditional German recipes from her parents. She reveled in making Fusilli, Apple Crisp, and Key Lime Pie.
Carol is survived by her son, Kizo (Betsy) Hurtienne of Stevens Point, WI; her brother, Robert Leuck of Waukesha, WI; her sister, Joan (Dik) Waak of Manitowoc, WI; her granddaughter, Ayla Hurtienne; her former husband, Chuck Hurtienne of Irma, WI; special cousins, Jane (Tom) Schmelter of Sheboygan, WI and Barbara (Robert) Burger of Washington State; nieces, nephew, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Jean Leuck and her in-laws, Carl and Mildred Hurtienne.
