Elizabeth “Betty” Nawikas, age 102, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Sheboygan on April 29, 1923, daughter to the late William and Anna (Reinl) Leve. Betty attended Holy Name School and graduated from Central High School.
On June 5, 1943 Betty united in marriage to Joseph Nawikas at Holy Name, Sheboygan. Betty was a longtime active member at Immaculate Conception Parish.
Betty worked at WI Telephone Co, HC Prange Co., Ross Glove and Northlands Plastics. She enjoyed bowling, painting, crossword puzzles and gifting her crochet, pottery and embroidery creations. Betty and Joe traveled extensively and “saw the world” as she said. Well into her 90s Betty spent time at the Sheboygan Senior Center and making tee time out on the greens.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Patricia Wehmeyer; son, Michael (Deborah) Nawikas; three grandchildren, Beau (Jennifer) Stricker, Becca Nawikas and Joseph (Suzie) Nawikas; seven great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Alexandra Stricker, Brennan, Quinn and Vann Thomas, and Maggie and Lettie Nawikas; Adam Thomas; special neighbor Carol Senkbeil, and other relatives and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Nawikas, her parents, William and Anna Leve, two brothers, William and Floyd Leve; six sisters, Teresa Lutz, Margaret Meyer, Helen Welch, Virginia Leve, Cordelia Lubach, MaryLu Boettner, daughter-in-law Kathie Nawikas and son-in-law Gerald Wehmeyer.
A Funeral Mass for Betty will take place on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 11:00AM at Immaculate Conception Parish,1305 Humboldt Ave., Sheboygan. Visitation will take place from 9:00AM-10:45AM at church. Inurnment will take place at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Sheboygan.
Memorial contributions can be made to The Gathering Place or a memorial of your choice in Betty’s honor.
