Ellie Hartmann

February 5, 1941 — June 18, 2025

Sheboygan

Elroy “Ellie” Arthur Hartmann passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife and family members on June 18th, 2025. Ellie was born on February 5th, 1941 to the late Frank Hartmann and Martha (Wolff) Fischer-Hartmann. He married Karen (Strowig) Hartmann in Waukegan on August 17th, 1963.

Ellie attended Mapledale School and graduated from Central High School in 1959. He grew up and worked on the family farm. He worked for Kingsbury Brewery before serving as a loyal employee to Schultz Sav-O Stores, Inc. (Piggly Wiggly) as a forklift driver for 30 years until his retirement at the age of 62.

Ellie was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing. The memories of adventures he had with his sons and good friends will be forever cherished and never forgotten. He was involved in sports his whole life. He participated in baseball, bowling, softball, basketball, and golf. The teammates and friends from that time were remembered by him with great joy.

He was a member of Farmers and Sportsman Club, Riverdale, and a proud Teamster member. He was a diehard sports fan. He loved the Chicago Bears, Milwaukee Brewers and Bucks, and all the Badger teams. He loved racing, especially sprint car racing. Watching his grandson Austin competing gave him goosebumps and extreme pride.

His true love and obsession was the golf ball. Pine Hills, Black Wolf, and Whistling Straits were his hunting grounds. The endless hours he spent on the golf course with his beloved dogs gave him tremendous happiness. He also enjoyed his sons and grandkids sporting events.

In whatever Ellie did, he loved the time spent with family and friends, especially at sprint car races, at Lake Winnebago, Collins Marsh, and on the golf course. Visiting him in his garage while cleaning his golf balls could turn into a long story telling time filled with laughter. His garage was a meeting place to tell stories, talk foolish, wash golf balls, and laugh. He was always there to offer support and a helping hand. It was the way he talked and connected with people that formed lasting relationships.

Ellie is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Fritz Fischer, Hans (Sandy) Fischer, Manfred (Betty) Fischer, Ray (Aldona) Fischer, Jerome Hartmann, nieces; Karri and Jodi Fischer, nephew William Fischer, and sister-in-law Eleanor Branson.

Ellie is survived by his wife Karen, his sons; Kevin (Ann) Hartmann, Thomas (Dawn) Hartmann, and Andrew (Angie) Hartmann, his grandchildren; Amie, Laura, Paige, Brooke (Jacob Tess), Austin, Karlee Hartmann, Megan (William Baus), Ethan (Kaylee Adamson) Fontany, great grandchildren; Liam, Chase Gorychka, Korin Lee, sister-in-law Diane Fischer, nephews; Albert Fischer, Michael Fischer, Steven Fischer, James Fischer, Keith Fischer, special friends; Robert Justinger and Douglas Detert, and other nieces, nephews, and friends.
