Elmer Weele

September 7, 1930 — February 20, 2017

Elmer Van Der Weele was born Sept. 7, 1930, son of Danker and Cora (Gabrielse) Van Der Weele. He graduated from Sheboygan Christian School and North High School. He served in the Korean War for 2 years. He married Harriet Kathryn Tamminga on August 18, 1954 at First Christian Reformed Church.
He and his wife became charter members of Calvin Christian Reformed Church. He belonged to the Men's Society, was on the Parents Club Board for the Sheboygan Christian School, served on the Sheboygan Christian High School Board. He was a Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent. Elmer was also a charter member of the Men of Harmony. He served as a Deacon and Elder for the Calvin Church for several terms. He and his wife volunteered for the Sheboygan Christian School and the Sheboygan County Christian High School. He worked for the Kohler Company for a total of 68 years. After 44 years in the foundry, he managed the Kohler Barn Sale for 20 years while also giving tours for 24 years.
They went on camping trips with their children and he and his wife took many trips around the country seeing God's beautiful creation. They traveled to Europe twice.
The grandchildren were his pride and joy and he loved going to their many activities.

Julie (Jim) Wassink; 13 grandchildren: Zachery (Theresa) Rescorla, Kaitlyn (Josh) Steiner, Derek (Jen) Vermeulen, Kyle (Richenda) Vermeulen; Alissa (Raimundo) Vermeulen/Miralles ; Michael Faber; Amanda (Kenny) Clinger, Danielle and Andrew Faber, Ross Eggebeen, Ashley (James) Rambousek, Carly Eggebeen (fiance' Alex Tislau), and McKenzie Wassink and 8 great grandchildren. Surviving brothers and sister-in-laws: Steve Van Der Weele, Betty Van Der Weele, Herbert Van Der Weele, Don & Joan Van Der Weele, Ray Van Der Weele, brother and sister-in-laws: Don & Ellie De Mann, Gary Tamminga, Jim & Karen Winkel and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, Danker & Cora Van Der Weele, parents-in-laws Gerlof and Katie Tamminga; brothers: Harold, Clarence (Harriet) Van Der Weele, and sisters, Jeanette (Rich) Sittema & Gertie (Hank) Krygsheld; son-in-law, Peter Rescorla; sister-in-law, Phyllis Van Der Weele.
A funeral service for Elmer will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvin Christian Reformed Church (2313 Saemann Avenue, Sheboygan) with Rev. Rick Boomsma officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at Ballhorn Chapels Funeral and Cremation Care Center (1201 N. 8th Street) from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Thursday, at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Entombment will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Park. .
A memorial fund has been established for Sheboygan County Christian School and the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Qiaofang Chen and Debbie Gray, from the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center and the staff of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their care and support.
