Florence Baxter

November 12, 1911 — June 27, 2017

Florence Baxter peacefully met her Savior on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, in the early afternoon at Sheboygan Senior Community, where she resided for many years. She was born on November 12, 1911, in Sheboygan, daughter of Helena "Lena" and Ernst Becker. She married George Baxter on October 5, 1935 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church and they had two sons, Warner (deceased) and Lane.
She is survived by Lane Baxter and many extended family and friends.
Florence was a long-time member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church on 11th and Broadway where she served wherever God called. For over 70 years, she sewed quilts for service locally and wherever needed in the world, just giving up her sewing machine in the last year or so. A special quilt that hung at the church entrance is buried with her at her request.
Florence also sang in the choir for many years and was active in recruiting members to join in praising the Lord with song. She was optimistic and interested in her church, world and current affairs while still keeping her sense of humor until the end and was amazed she reached 105 years.
This poem was written by Connie and fits Florence perfectly:
Nana
Storybook grandmother not. She is strange mixture of German fairy and bulldog. Her hands tell all constantly busy with this and that never finished with her human or wood products.
To say she cleans or mends or weaves is only the beginning. Nana begins where others leave off and never ends. Her short stature only forces her high reach. Nana is a verb, constantly in motion.
To give for Nana is divine. She showers each creature with food and sewing. Her creations are not regulated or named. They are delicious hodgepodges from her collection. To receive a Nana creation can send your mind areeling. For she is an expert at recycling your own stuff.
Nana warms my soul with her coffee and my heart with Ach Yaaa.
Many thanks to all the care given to Florence by her doctors, nurses and caregivers. They are special and blessed caring people.
