Henry Poth

August 21, 1926 — July 27, 2013

Henry J. Poth, 86, of Kiel, formerly of Sheboygan, went home to his Lord on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. He was born August 21, 1926 in Sheboygan to the late Henry F. Poth and Lena (Meyer) Poth. As a boy Henry grew up and worked on the Poth homestead farm in the Town of Wilson. He attended Sheboygan Central High School. While in high school Henry worked for the Stephani Meat Market, later purchasing it and creating Poth Food Market where he worked until his retirement. In December of 1944 Henry was called to serve his country in World War II and entered the United States Army. He served in the Philippines and Japan with the 34th Infantry Regiment 24th Division. After returning home from active duty in 1947, Henry married his true love, Rose Zitzer on August 30, 1947. Last year Henry and Rose celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary. Henry was an avid outdoorsman enjoying his annual fishing trips for walleye on the boundary waters, pheasant hunting in Iowa, and locally hunting for rabbits and deer with his family and friends. His honeymoon with Rose on Lac Vieux Desert was a special memory for Henry. He also enjoyed spending quality time with each of his grandchildren. He attended countless games of baseball, basketball, football, volleyball, golf and dance recitals just to name a few. Henry's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all the apple of his eye. Henry was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6707, Kiel, American Legion Post #83, Sheboygan, and the Old Timers Baseball Association. He was a past member of Riverdale Country Club and the Wisconsin Senior Golf Tour. Henry was a very special and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. With all his heart he loved his wife Rosie and the family they created. Family togetherness is what gave him the greatest joy and peace. "Walk in the way of the Lord and I will be happy and you will be happy too." As Christians, we will all be together again in Heaven. In addition to his wife Rose, Henry is survived by 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; his three sons, Bradley Poth, Scott (Kay) Poth and John (Karla) Poth; his three daughters, Lynn (Bill) Yang, Janelle (Mark) Arenz and Rosanne (Scott) Luchterhand; his 16 grandchildren: Amee (C.T.) Thompson, Taylor, Teresa and Dane Poth, Everett, Jaidyn, Anders and Athena Poth, Clint (Chris) Kautzer, Matthew (Tamara) Kautzer, Peter (Kayla) Kautzer, Andrew (Michelle) Kautzer, Michelle and Melissa Arenz, Rachel (Eric) Zingler and Wesley (Abby) Luchterhand; his 9 great grandchildren, Mariah Bledsoe, Clara Kautzer, Logan Kautzer, Joshua, Caleb and Bethany Kautzer, Benjamin, Lily and Sophia Zingler; he is further survived by two sisters, Dolores Grams (of Appleton) and Cleora Marx (of Howards Grove) and a sister-in-law Patricia Zitzer (of Bozeman, Montana). A funeral service for Henry will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at Zimmer's Westview Funeral and Cremation Care Center (Hwy 42 & JJ, Howards Grove) with the Rev. Nathan Meador and Rev. John Schultz of St. John Lutheran Plymouth, officiating. Friends may call Friday at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until the time of service. A private interment will be at the Wildwood Cemetery. The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
