Hugh Dales

Hugh Dales, 85, of Thiensville (formerly of Sheboygan) passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017, at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon. He was born March 11, 1932 in Sheboygan to Hugh Ambrose and Ursula (Gash) Dales. He graduated from North High School with the class of 1950. Following graduation, he joined and proudly served in the US Navy. Hugh then went on to receive his Masters of Business Administration in Banking & Finance from the University of Wisconsin in 1958. In 1963, he graduated from the School for Bank Auditors & Comptrollers, Wauwatosa Real Estate School and passed his Federal & State examination. In 1988, he obtained his license to sell real estate.
On February 19, 1953, he was united in marriage with the love of his life Mary E. Erbstoesser in Bakersfield, CA. Following Hugh's discharge from the Navy, they made Sheboygan their home, where they raised their family.
Hugh was a member of First Congregational Church, and he was active in his community in his personal life as well. He had several jobs over his life including Vice President, Comptroller, Auditor at Firstar Bank Wisconsin in Sheboygan; Sales Agent for Schils Real Estate in Sheboygan; Self Employed Accounting Service, Distribution - Security Travel Bureau in Sheboygan; H&R Block tax preparer in Milwaukee; Payroll, Financial Statements and Tax Accounting in Milwaukee; General Ledger Reconciler - US Bank, Milwaukee, and he was currently the accountant for two Condominium Associations.
Hugh was the President, Vice President, Secretary, and Director of the Sheboygan Lakeshore Kiwanis Club, Accounting Advisory Committee at Lakeshore Technical College, a member of the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army, served on the Budget Committee & Board of Directors for the Sheboygan United Way, was a Trustee, Treasurer, and Auditor at First Congregational Church, Treasurer of the Sheboygan County Halfway House, Athletic Advisory Committee at Sheboygan YMCA, Treasurer and Director of the Sheboygan Jaycees, member of the Sheboygan Elks and Elks National Foundation, and he was a coach for Little League baseball, football, and basketball. Hugh loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and his beloved cat Shelby. He enjoyed working on model airplanes and working Sudoku puzzles.
He is survived by his children; Denise Dales of Menomonee Falls, Lisa (Tom) Boritzke of Brookfield, Julie Dales of AZ, and Hugh Dales IV of Germantown, by six grandchildren who affectionately called him "Papa"; Andrea, Heather, Andy (Kaitlyn), Michael, Amy and Kimberly, by his sister Diane Ertel, brother David (Lila) Dales, sister-in-law Rhoda Dales, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of sixty-two years Mary on June 9, 2015, his daughter Kathryn Dales, brother Ronald Dales, and brother-in-law Richard Ertel.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 3:00PM at First Congregational Church, 310 Bluff Ave. Sheboygan, with Pastor Beth Petzke officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the CHURCH.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Hugh's name.
Hugh's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff in the ICU at St. Mary's Hospital Ozaukee especially Lindsay and Evan, and to the staff of Lawlis Family Hospice for all their comfort, care and support.
