Jim Gainer

October 18, 1942 — June 28, 2017

Jim D. Gainer, of Sheboygan, formerly of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 28, 2017 at Meadowview Manor in Sheboygan. He was 74 years old.
Jim was born October 18, 1942 in Johnstown, PA, the son of Thomas W and Icie "Marie" (nee McCauley) Gainer. He graduated from Franklin High School, and went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force as a K9 Sentinel Guard.
On September 20, 1962, he was united in marriage with Betty Lou Gindlesperger in Spanaway, WA. The couple began their family in Washington before moving back to Johnstown in 1964.
Jim retired as a crane operator after 40 years in the Franklin division of Bethlehem Steel. He was a proud member of the United Steel Workers of America. Jim was a member of the American Legion Post #970 in Parkhill, PA as well as the Fraternal Order Eagles in Woodvale, PA, where he had served as President. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking, dancing, playing slot machines, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his wife Betty and their children: Janet (Ronald) Kralik of Nazareth, PA, Sandi (Richard) Brandon of Sheboygan, WI, Thomas (Helen) Gainer of West Palm, FL, Jo Ann (William) Kimmick of Etters, PA. He is further survived by 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters: Kizzy Cekada-Dietz of Johnstown, PA and Sandy Dawson of Bedford, PA, brother-in-law John (Rosemary) Gindlesperger of Johnstown, PA, sister-in-law Ruth Ann Reed of Manns Choice, PA, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by infant brother Mickey John and a great-granddaughter.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested in Jim's name to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls, WI.
