Lucille A. Korb, age 81 of Elkhart Lake, WI passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center with her loving husband at her side. She was born October 16, 1932 in Sheboygan to the late Otto and Meta (Krueger) Rohde. Lucille was baptized in November of 1932 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Howards Grove and was confirmed in April of 1946 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Sheboygan. On September 13, 1952 she married Kenneth W. Korb at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Lucille attended Mapledale Elementary School, Town of Sheboygan and graduated from Central High School in 1950. She was a graduate of Sheboygan County Teachers College in 1972, completing her bachelor's degree in elementary education at Lakeland College graduating in 1974 manga cum laude. Lucille increased her teaching skills by completing numerous graduate courses and seminars. Lucille substituted for several years in various elementary schools in Sheboygan County. She taught full-time at Elkhart Lake Elementary School for 1 year and then for 17 years at Sheboygan Falls Elementary School. She retired in 1995 after teaching for 21 years. Lucille enjoyed traveling in the U.S., Canada and Europe. She especially appreciated visits of western and southwestern states and also Alaska and Hawaii. Foreign destinations included 3 Canadian tours, and 5 European tours to visit with Ken's brother Stanley and family in England. Among her most enjoyable experiences were renting cars and traveling throughout much of Europe, visiting historical sites and the many ranges of the European Alps. Driving back roads, she loved visiting and staying overnight in small villages, joining residents in their favorite restaurants, inns and shops. Especially enjoyed, were the many sites in England, Scotland and Wales and of course London, toured with Stanley Korb and his family. Lucy also enjoyed oil-painting during her retirement, benefiting much from her 8 years of training with local artist Kitty Klisch. Numerous oil paintings are displayed on the walls of family members' homes. When not traveling or painting, she spent many hours tending her flower beds, enjoying the seasonal blooms from spring to late fall. Also among her favorite retirement activities were the weekly meetings of the Elkhart Lake Bridge Club as well as sessions of the Community's Study Club, and monthly luncheon meetings of the Sheboygan Falls Retired Elementary Teachers. Most of all, however, Lucy enjoyed and loved her family. She enjoyed watching 4 children and their 11 grandchildren grow and mature. Most recently, 4 great-grandchildren have joined the family. She will always be remembered as a caring and loving wife, mother and grandparent. Among her greatest joys were the annual gatherings on Christmas Eve and Day when all or most of the family would meet and celebrate the Lord's birth and Christmas season. Lucille was very active in her church, Trinity Lutheran Church of Howards Grove. She taught Sunday school classes for many years and participated in the congregation's summer bible classes for children. She also appreciated the time spent with the Trinity Quilters who each year complete numerous quilts to donate to deserving groups. The quilters also provided an opportunity for Christian fellowship. Lucille is survived by her loving husband Ken, of 61 years, four children; Gary (Susan) Korb of Waukesha, WI, Karen (Jon) Cowan of LaCrosse, WI, Kathy (Robert) Huncosky of Madison, WI, and Jeffrey Korb of Kiel, WI. Her eleven grandchildren are Benjamin (Sheryl) Korb, Joseph (Simone) Korb and Stephen (Hilary) Korb; Katelyn (Jason) Anderson, Kirsten (Flavio) Da Silva, Hope and Joseph Cowan; Rebecca (Michael) Lloyd, and Thomas, Daniel and Elizabeth Huncosky. She was also blessed during recent years with the births of four great-grandchildren; Hannah Grace and Charlotte Mae Korb of Mukwonago, and Jonah Kenneth and Sophia Lucille Surena Korb of Oconomowoc. She is also survived by a brother Walter (Valeria) Rohde and a sister Mildred Melger, nieces and nephews and cousins. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Meta (Krueger) Rohde and her brothers; Harold (Angeline) and Edwin (Hildegard and Mar Jean) Rohde. A Funeral Service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Howards Grove (W2776 State Hwy 32) at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 9 with Rev Darrel Bergelin presiding. Burial in the church cemetery to follow. Friends and relatives may call at the church from 9 AM until time of service. A memorial fund in memory of Lucille Korb will be established for the Church's Improvement Fund. The family extends a special thank you to Lucille's doctors and all the medical staff of Aurora Medical Center - Sheboygan and Rocky Knoll Health Care Facility who served her during her protracted illness. A special thank you is extended to the care-staff of Rocky Knoll who provided loving care and comfort to Lucy over the several years of her illness.
