Marie J. Neumann

April 25, 1932 — November 9, 2023

Milwaukee

Marie Joan (Brusok) Neumann passed away on November 9, 2023 at the age of 91.  Her loving husband, Roland, passed away on April 23, 2023.  They were married 66 wonderful years and are now reunited in Eternal Life.

Marie was born on April 25, 1932 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, the daughter of Anton and Agatha Brusok.  She grew up in Sheboygan, graduating from Central High School in 1950.  She went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1954.  She enjoyed her time as a Badger and was a proud member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

Marie began her career as a buyer at Gimbels in Milwaukee, where she worked for 13 years, enjoying her many buying trips to New York City.  On December 29, 1956, Marie married Roland Neumann at Immaculate Conception Church in Sheboygan.  They were married during a Christmas break of law school, and she recalled typing Roland’s law school papers at night while working at Gimbels during the day.  They lived in Milwaukee for the early part of their life until moving to Sheboygan in 1965.  After two years of commuting, she decided it was time to retire and build their life in Sheboygan.

Marie was a devoted wife and mother, cherishing time with her family above all else.  She had a strong Catholic faith and was a lifelong member of Holy Name Catholic Church, and volunteered at the parish school when her children were students there.  Marie was involved in Lawyers' Wives of Sheboygan County (serving as President for a time), Pine Hills Country Club, and a bowling league in her younger years.  She enjoyed golfing with her friends at Pine Hills, as well as in Arizona in her later years.  Marie was the best of the best when it came to entertaining.  A party planned by her typically involved a theme, beautiful decorations, delicious food (almost always homemade), and drinks in just-the-right glasses.  One of her truly special talents was her ability to sew.  The dresses she sewed were spectacular and no one doubted for a moment that they would be perfect and shine like no other.

Marie enjoyed traveling with her family and spending winters in Arizona.  She loved when her children and their spouses and grandchildren visited them in Sheboygan or Arizona.  Marie was happiest when the weather was warm and her family was surrounding her.  She enjoyed making her famous “Irish Kisses” for friends and family, and recently shared her recipe and technique so the tradition can live on in her grandchildren.  Marie was fiercely loyal and would do anything for the family she loved.  She will be dearly missed.

Marie is survived by her children, Lee Anne (Jeff) Conta of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin and Thomas (Hollie) Neumann of Suamico, Wisconsin; her three grandchildren, Patrick, Matthew, and Katherine Conta; as well as nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Along with her parents and stepmother Julia Brusok, Marie was preceded in death by her husband Roland, her sisters Febronia, Alvina, and Genevieve, and her brother Fabian.

A Funeral Mass for Marie will be held on Thursday, November 16th at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Name Catholic Church, 818 Huron Avenue, Sheboygan.  The family will greet visitors at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.  She will be laid to rest at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Sheboygan.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School in Marie’s honor.  Checks may be made payable to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School, with Marie J. Neumann written in the memo line.  Please mail checks to 807 Superior Ave., Sheboygan, WI 53081.
