Mardell Schumacher

December 17, 1935 — April 10, 2013

Mardell A. Schumacher, age 77, of Howards Grove, passed away Wednesday April 10, 2013 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. She was born December 17, 1935 in Plymouth, WI. a daughter of the late Theodore and Sylvia (Mitwede) Machut. She attended St. John Lutheran School and was a 1954 graduate of Plymouth High School. Mardell worked at Borden's in Plymouth until 1960. Harold Schumacher and Mardell Machut were united in marriage on July 30, 1960 at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth. In 1961, the couple moved to the Schumacher Homestead farm in rural Sheboygan Falls. Mardell was a homemaker, and over the years was involved with her children's activities, especially 4-H. She enjoyed craft-making and crocheting handiwork, and could be seen at the Sheboygan County Fair every year in her booth, selling her crafts and handiwork. She loved growing flowers and gardening, canning her produce, garage sales and decorating for Christmas. Mardell was an Avon Representative for many years, and received several "Mrs. Alby" awards for sales in the Presidents club. Despite her constant challenges with health issues, Mardell was a woman of strong faith. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in the Town of Sheboygan Falls, where she had been a member of Sarah Circle and Mutual Ministry, also holding Avon fund-raisers for the church. She treasured her time with her children and grandchildren, and was a babysitter for the grandkids. For many years, Mardell and Harold went "up north" to spend the 4th of July with family. Surviving Mardell is her husband of 52 years, Harold, two sons; Gary of Howards Grove and Randy (Julie) of Hilbert, three daughters; Lavonne (Paul) Schroeder of Sheboygan, Jodi (Romeo Gomez) Ziegelbauer of Howards Grove and Stacy (Brian Reed) Schumacher of Two Rivers, ten grandchildren: Adam Schumacher, Bradley, Chris and Nick (Melissa) Schroeder, Hannah and Noah Schumacher, Tera, Cassie and Zach Ziegelbauer, Mariana Gomez, four great grandchildren, Sheldon, Marissa, Cameron and Dominic; four sisters-in-law; Marlene Machut of Waukesha, Dorothy Verhage of Sheboygan Falls, Lorraine (Del) Crawford of San Jose, CA. and Darleen Rautmann of Sheboygan Falls, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mardell was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Machut, an infant brother, three brothers-in-law, Ronald Rautmann, Elton (Louise) Schumacher and Richard Verhage. A funeral service will be conducted for Mardell on Monday April 15, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Luke Lutheran Church, N6193 State Hwy 32, Sheboygan Falls. Reverend Elizabeth Jaeger, officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at Zimmer's Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center, (Hwy 42 and Cty road JJ, Howards Grove) on Sunday from 4 until 7 pm and at the CHURCH on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Memorial Funds have been established to St. Luke Church and the Sheboygan County Fair Association in the name of Mardell A. Schumacher. The family would like to thank the staff of Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center and Sharon Richardson Community Hospice for the loving care Mardell received.
