Mark Deckert

January 17, 1948 — February 17, 2022

Sheboygan

Mark Anthony Deckert, 74, of Sheboygan, passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2022, following a short battle with leukemia, at St. Luke’s Medical Center in Milwaukee.  He was born January 17, 1948, in Sheboygan to the late Rudolph and Dorothea (Altmann) Deckert.  Mark graduated from Sheboygan North High School with the Class of 1966.  He then went on to graduate from Spencerian Business College.

On October 17, 1981, he was united in marriage to Laura Jane Barlow at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.  Together they raised their two daughters, Kristin (Roger) Hunter and Lindsay (Kevin) Schuh.

Mark worked in sales and retail management and was the “Chief Caregiver” of his daughters when they were young.  He had a strong faith and was an active member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, serving as Chief of the Holy Name Ushers Society for 14 years, on the grounds crew and cleaning crew.  Mark was also a board member of the Calvary Cemetery Association.

Mark served as Director and Vice President of the Sheboygan Softball Association (SSA).  He was inducted into the SSA Hall of Fame and Wisconsin USSSA Hall of Fame as a player and coach.

Mark was an avid Brewers fan and enjoyed watching the Packers and Badgers.  He loved the outdoors, doing yardwork, landscaping, golfing, and spending time on a pontoon boat while in the Chain of Lakes area, especially on Pine Lake.  His greatest pride and joy were his family. Spending time with them creating many cherished memories and reading to his grandchildren meant the world to him.  Mark always put others first; he was dedicated to his family, faith and community.

Mark is further survived by his grandchildren; Greta and Heidi Hunter and Lydia and Xander Schuh, brother Keith (Joy Weinfurtner) Deckert, sister Jeanne (Larry) Grunwald, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Guy and Phyllis Barlow, brother-in-law Robert Barlow and close family friend John Haen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022, at 12:00 Noon at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 818 Huron Ave., Sheboygan.  Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 10:00 AM until the time of mass at the CHURCH. If you are unable to join the family for the service, it will be livestreamed on Mark’s obituary page on the funeral home website.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Name of Jesus Parish or St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School in Mark’s name.
