Matthew Gersmehl

Matthew Thomas Gersmehl, 31, of Greenfield, passed away unexpectedly, on January 3, 2018. He was born May 28, 1986 to Walter and Diane (Van Rooy) Gersmehl in Sheboygan. Matt was a graduate of South High School Class of 2004.
After completing training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA, Matt worked at General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee as a Transportation Security Officer / Behavioral Detection Officer. Matt was very proud to be part of the TSA team that went to Miami on September 11, 2017 to help with hurricane Irma relief efforts, and he also received recognition for his outstanding performance at work. In his free time Matt enjoyed gaming on the computer and with his video game systems. He was loving, caring and conscientious. His sparkling blue eyes and beautiful smile would light up a room, he is going to be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Matt is survived by his parents; Walter (Jane) Gersmehl and Diane (Barry Hoak) Gersmehl, he was a champion to his two brothers, Michael and John Gersmehl, by his grandmothers; Patricia Van Rooy and Marti Van Rooy, by his aunts; Ann (Randy) Harden, Dawn (Paul) Bartell, and Tami Van Rooy, girlfriend Brandy Sumner, he is further survived by cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Cecelia Gersmehl, grandfather Thomas Van Rooy, and aunts Cathy Hoitink and Phyllis Verstraate.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2720 Henry St., Sheboygan, with Fr. Paul Fliss officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Zimmer Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center, W2132 Garton Rd., Sheboygan. And again on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 from 9:00 AM until the time of mass at the CHURCH.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established in Matt's name.
