Michael Hess, Jr.

December 20, 1920 — September 20, 2013

Michael Leonard Hess Jr. 92 of Sheboygan slipped peacefully away to his Creator and Redeemer Sept 20, 2013 at Morningside Health Center. He was born December 20, 1920 in Sheboygan, to the late Michael Hess Sr. and Anna (Brotz) Hess. He attended St. Peter Claver Grade School and Kohler High School. Mike served our country in the US Army from 1942 to 1946 and was stationed in New Guinea and The Philippine Islands. On May 3rd, 1944 he married June Catherine Mueller of Sheboygan in Aurora Colorado. They were blessed with seven children. June died on Oct 23, 1963 and Mike was left with the care of their young family. Some years later he was fortunate to meet Lillian (Koestler) Muehlbauer who had also lost her spouse. Mike and Lillian were married July1, 1972 combining their families. They loved their years together and that was very evident. It was a time that they both savored the simple joys of living. After enjoying 18 years together, Lillian died on October 8, 1990. Mike worked at Kohler Company and various other jobs, but most of his career was spent working as a journeyman electrician. He was proud to be a 50 year member of the IBEW, the electrical workers union. He retired from his trade in 1982, and enjoyed his years of retirement. He was a multi-talented man, able to fix most anything. To him it was more of a challenge if someone thought it was "unfixable". ("Don't throw that away until I look at it!" ) He was a great cook and his children continue to emulate his culinary skills. He gladly did auto and appliance repairs and home maintenance for the extended family. He enjoyed watching the progress at construction projects whether it was the new Marina, the bridge over 8th Street or Blue Harbor. Michael was the second in a lineage of five Michael Hesses, beginning with his father and continuing to his great grandson. Michael is survived by his children James (Julie) Hess, Patrick Hess, Christine (Roger) Hiers, Laura Dumovich, Anne (John) Gordon all of Sheboygan and Theresa (Tim) Tyson of Madison, his stepsons Gene (Mary) Muehlbauer of Menomonee Falls, and Ronald (Jane) Muehlbauer of Pewaukee, and his sister, Audrey Kirst, of Franklin. Twenty grandchildren survive as well as many great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and both of his beloved wives he was preceded in death by his son Michael J. Hess III, his stepson James Muehlbauer, his stepdaughter Susan Gartman, his brother Clarence Hess and four sisters Margaret Klein, Angela Zovne Adeline Gebhart and Eleanore Van der Kuyl, and his grandsons Roger and Charles Gartman. Also preceding are his brother- in- law Julius" Sonny" Mueller , two sons- in- law Robert Dumovich and Richard Gartman and his dear sister- in- law Lillian (Clarence)Hess Visitation will be Saturday September 28, 2013 at Zimmer's Westview Funeral & Cremation Care Center W2132 Garton Road (Hwy 42 & Cty Rd JJ) from 10:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Private interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. A Memorial fund has been established for The Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. Their caring comfort was provided at a time when it was so needed and appreciated. Mike's family wants to express appreciation to the people who were so kind to our dad at Morningside where he stayed for the past seven weeks and thank you to his newest friend Pastor Glen Unke. You were all a special blessing in our lives at a difficult time. May God's blessings be upon you.
