Ned Rieboldt

July 18, 1923 — April 20, 2017

Ned Wm. Rieboldt, age 93, Sheboygan, passed away on April 20th at Sunny Ridge Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Sheboygan, WI on July 18, 1923, the son of the late Benjamin and Anne (Sommers) Rieboldt. Ned graduated from Central High School, class of '41. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge due to illness. He was employed as a printer in the composing room at the Sheboygan Press for 42 years, retiring in 1985. On June 7, 1958, he was united in marriage to Marion R. Mandel at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sheboygan, WI.

In his younger years, Ned enjoyed league golfing, league bowling, fishing, hunting, and vacations with his family at various cottages up north every summer. Ned played basketball in the city leagues and also coached teams. Later he coached his sons and daughters recreation teams and also a team in the church league on Sunday afternoon. As a long-time member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church, he served on the church council, various committees, played on the men's dartball team, and taught Sunday School. Ned was president of the International Typographical Union at the Sheboygan Press for many years. He was a Red Cross blood donor for many years.

In retirement, Ned enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting, attending sporting events, and traveling with Marion. They took up cross country skiing, liked to take walks and bike rides, and enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren. In 1989, Ned established the Greater Rieboldt Open, which became an annual family golf event, including green jackets and trophies.

Ned is survived by his wife Marion, sons William (Lisa), Grafton, WI, Benjamin (Margie), Buffalo Grove, IL, daughters Ruthann Shields, Wauwatosa, WI, and Heidi (Roderick) Wiese, Austin, MN, grandchildren Ryan Rieboldt, Daniel Rieboldt, Joseph Rieboldt, Matthew Rieboldt, and Shelby Shields, sister-in-law Kay Rieboldt, Walnut Creek, CA, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond Rieboldt, Benton Rieboldt, and sister Annette Marcus.

A funeral service will be conducted on Monday April 24, 2017 at 11:30 AM at Ballhorn Funeral Chapel, 1201 N 8th Street Sheboygan. Reverend Karl Nelson will officiate. Interment will follow at Lutheran Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held at Ballhorns on Monday from 9:30 until the time of the service.

A memorial fund has been established in the name of Ned Wm. Rieboldt.
