Orval Marx

Orval Marx, 94, of Howards Grove, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Sheboygan Senior Community. He was born February 28, 1919 in Town Herman to the late Oscar and Ella (Lutze) Marx. Orval graduated from Mission House Academy in 1936 and attended the University of Wisconsin Madison participating in the Ag. Short Course. On April 9, 1944, he married the former Cleora Poth at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Sheboygan. The couple went on to farm on the family farm in Town Herman until retiring in 1986. He was active member of St. John's Church in Schwartzwald, serving as treasurer on the cemetery board and consistory. After moving to Howards Grove, he was the past president of Our Shepherd UCC and on the original building committee. Orval was a fan of the Packers and the Cubs. He also was an avid bowler with the Log Cabin and Pine Grove bowling teams. Recently, he was active in the Howards Grove senior community and played dartball for Our Shepherd UCC and the Howards Grove Senior Center. Orval was always a promoter of education and extremely proud of the degrees of his children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Cleora, he is also survived by two sons, Robert (Linda) Marx and Randy (Ann) Marx; two daughters, Jacquelyn (Fritz) Grunewald and Joanne Wesener; ten grandchildren, Christopher (Colleen) Marx, Chad (Kristilyn) Marx, Ryan Marx, Callen Marx and Miranda Marx, Bryan (Dana) Grunewald, Angela Grunewald, Shawn (Mary) Wesener, Shane Wesener and Seth (Lynn) Wesener; ten great-grandchildren; Patrick, Nolan, Camdyn, Brody, Trent, Kalena, Korynne, Evelyn, Oliver and Levi; one sister, Gertrude Hameister; one brother-in-law, Henry (Rose) Poth; one sister-in-law, Dolores Grams He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Norman, one sister, Adeline, one son-in-law, Arthur Wesener, three brothers-in-law, Ervin Schmidt, Ray Hameister and Alton Grams and two nephews, Allen Schmidt and Gary Grams. A funeral service for Orval will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at Our Shepherd UCC (710 Ethan Allen Drive, Howards Grove) with the Rev. Peggy Feyen officiating. Friends may call on Friday, at the church, from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the Wildwood Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Our Shepherd UCC. The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice, Sheboygan Senior Community and St. Nicholas Hospital as well as special neighbors and friends.
