Perry Harris

December 24, 1919 — July 17, 2018

Perry W. Harris, 98, of Sheboygan, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. He was born December 24, 1919 in Waukegan, IL. Perry was the oldest son of Frank W. and Caroline (Price) Harris.
Perry was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Waukegan High in 1936 and attended one year of Business College. He worked at Sager Lock Works, a Division of Yale & Towne Mfg. Co. until he enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 as a 3rd class Yeoman at Great lakes, IL. He served at Great Lakes as well as in Chicago for Naval Officer Procurement for 2 years. Then he went to the ship repair unit at Milne Bay, New Guinea. He continued his military service at Subic Bay, Philippines until January 1946. He was then discharged at Great Lakes as Chief Yeoman on February 2, 1946.
On February 23, 1946, he married his Waukegan childhood sweetheart, Leatrice Nelson, in Minneapolis, MN. After their honeymoon in Chicago, IL, they moved to Sheboygan. Perry obtained employment at the Vollrath Company and worked for them for 38 ½ years before retiring in December of 1984 as a purchasing agent.
For many years the couple co-owned a summer cottage on Squaw Lake, 18 miles south of Rhinelander. They enjoyed fishing, swimming, water skiing, and entertaining their family and friends. Perry enjoyed golfing, softball, deer hunting, and stamp collecting. He golfed many Saturday afternoons with several of his Vollrath pals and with Walter Zarazinski, Leaty's twin sister's husband. He began collecting stamps while in the 8th grade, stopped while in the Navy, and began again in the 70's when he joined the Sheboygan Stamp Club. Perry has been a club member, a past-president, and auctioneer at weekly meetings.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Leaty of Sheboygan, son Scott (Jane) Harris of New Jersey, granddaughter Rebecca (Michael) Giacopelli, two great-grandchildren Emma and Nathan and one brother Richard Harris of Canton, OH.
