Ralph Horness

Ralph Richard Horness, 80, of Howards Grove, was called to his heavenly home on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at home. Ralph was born in Sheboygan on February 10, 1934, the son of Sophie (Miller) and Christ Horness. Ralph was baptized on March 4, 1934 and confirmed on March 21, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He attended St. Paul Lutheran Grade School in Sheboygan and graduated from Central High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Air Force at Frances E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming and in Nagoya, Japan, from 1952-1956. On October 9, 1971, he married Carol A. Harms at St. Luke Lutheran Church on Hwy 32 in Sheboygan Falls. Ralph is a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church ELCA, where he served as president, head usher, council member and on the mutual ministry committee. He is a past member of the Howards Grove Lions Club. Ralph enjoyed playing golf, watching the Packers and other sports. He loved the outdoors, working in his yard, playing cards and listening to music and traveling. He will be remembered for his strong faith and his willingness to help others in need. He loved to be with the children, listening to them read and playing with them. He was employed at Tecumseh in New Holstein for 34 years and retired from Bemis Mfg Co. on June 1, 1997. Ralph also worked part time at Blackwolf Run and Johnsonville. Ralph's memory lives on in the hearts and minds of his wife, Carol, his brother, Richard (Sherry) Horness, sisters-in-law, Marge (Bert) Dreps, Marion Horness, Patricia Horness and a brother-in-law, John (Mary Lou) Schreiber. He will be reunited in Heaven with his parents, two sisters, Rella Roop and Rogene Schreiber, three brothers, Raymond, Roger and Robert Horness, a brothers-in-law, Robert Roop and Orlin Schueler. A celebration of Ralph's life will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church, (N6193 State Hwy 32, Sheboygan Falls) with the Rev. Elizabeth Jaeger officiating. A private burial will take place at Garden of Peace Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. The family would like to thank the Aurora Visiting Nurses Association and Dr. Robert Remington for their care and concern.
