Raymond D. Reinhardt

Raymond D. Reinhardt, age 102, went home on September 10th, 2025 at St Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan. He was born on September 10th, 1923 to John and Esther (Herman) Reinhardt.

Ray worked at the Sheboygan Press for forty-one years. He began his employment at age twenty-two doing war work in the Commercial Engraving Department. In late 1945 he joined the Art Department as an apprentice and was later promoted to a Commerical Artist. He worked closely with Ray Van Handel, also a well-known artist. The two became good friends over these years and shared many interests outside of work which included stamp collecting and all sorts of sports.

Ray was known at work as the easy-going type and this continued into his personal life. The “Rays” decided to retire together on April 4th, 1986. Ray was sixty-two at the time.

His retirement plans at the time included golfing at Riverdale Golf Club, hunting, fishing and gardening with his then wife, Jean Reinhardt, who preceded him in death in 2000.

On October 4th, 2003 he married Shirley Reinhardt (nee Quinn) and they enjoyed many happy years together. They loved each other deeply and Ray became the “adopted” dad, grandfather and great-grandfather to Shirley’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ray enjoyed taking long walks under the trees in the Sunny Side area of town. He was an avid golfer well into his eighties and early nineties and once nailed a hole-in-one on Riverdale’s 110-yard Hole No. 5. He used a 7 iron.

Later, after a knee injury slowed him down a bit, Ray and Shirley played cribbage daily. They enjoyed taking trips to the casino in Green Bay where Ray was a very lucky gambler. He once won the $1000 Power Ball second chance drawing. He also loved jigsaw puzzles and their home is adorned with many of his completed works.

He is survived by his wife and dedicated caregiver, Shirley, Shirley’s children Stephen Fredrick, David Fredrick and Cheri Kleffner (nee Fredrick), grandchildren, Rebecca, Rachel, Stephanie, Sarah, Brian, Eric and Oliva. As well as great-grandchildren Morgan, William, Ella, Eva, Mackena, Hudson, Malcolm, Robin and Desmond. He is also survived by niece Wendy Hengsbach (nee Schils) and nephews Gary Schils and George Schils.

A Funeral Service for Ray will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 824 Wisconsin Ave., in Sheboygan with Pastor Timothy Mech officiating. Family will greet visitors on Friday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Ray will be laid to rest at the Gardens of Peace Mausoleum in Kohler.
