Richard ‘Dick’ M. Williams, Jr., 85, passed away on Tuesday, August 5th, at Pine Haven in Sheboygan Falls, after a courageous and lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Though his memories faded, his warmth, humor, optimism, and vibrant personality continued to shine through, leaving an enduring legacy of love and kindness. Despite his health struggles, he never gave up, continuing fiercely to try to maintain his independence.
Born on June 29, 1940, Dick was the son of the late Richard and Inga (Strand) Williams. He was a proud graduate of Baraboo High School and pursued his education at Madison Business College. On May 29, 1965, he married the love of his life, Muriel Danielle ‘Dani’ Eder, in Madison, WI.
Dick dedicated many years to his career at St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance, where he ultimately served as Regional Claims Manager in Chicago. He retired at the age of 56, opening the door for him to indulge in the pursuits he loved most. An avid golfer, Dick lived on several golf course communities and cherished the opportunity to volunteer during The Masters in Pinehurst. His love for travel took him on memorable cruises through Europe and Norway—the homeland of his grandparents—as well as visits to Hong Kong, Singapore, and other exotic destinations.
A devoted Green Bay Packers and UW football fan, Dick was known for his collection of memorabilia and fond memories of attending a Packers Cruise, where he mingled with legendary players. His adventurous spirit and zest for life inspired those around him.
Throughout his life, Dick and Dani resided in various places, including Milwaukee and Waukesha, WI; Philadelphia, PA; Dublin, CA; and Batavia, IL. After initially retiring to Las Vegas, they continued their journey to Pinehurst, NC, and ultimately made their home in Ocala, Florida, where they spent nearly two decades.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dani; his daughter Kristi (Olson) Friedrich and her husband John of Sheboygan; his grandchildren Devon Olson (David Kraemer) of Pittsburgh, PA, Rowan Olson (Andrew Young) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Cooper Olson of Huntsville, AL; and his daughter Kelly of Los Angeles, CA.
Dick’s kindness, optimism, and zest for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love and adventure will remain in our hearts forever.
