Roger Ross

Roger J. Ross, age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Sunny Ridge, where he had been a resident since 2001. He was born on May 4, 1918 in Sheboygan, a son of the late Bernard and Clara (Butler) Ross. Roger and his brother, Robert, were the first set of twins born at St. Nicholas Hospital. He graduated from Central High School in Sheboygan. Roger served in the U.S. Army, 32nd Red Arrow Division from 1940 until 1945. He served in WWII, in the Pacific Theater. Over the years, Roger drove truck for local companies and in later years worked as a custodian for the Sheboygan Area School District, retiring in 1984. Following retirement, he became a dedicated volunteer with the St. Nicholas Hospital Auxiliary, putting in more than 5000 hours, most of that time being of service in the ER. His most recent and memorable joy occurred on November 3, 2012 as he participated in the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight and he would gladly share his stories of that day with anyone who wanted to listen. Survivors include his children, Richard (Mary) of Brillion, Rochelle, Roman of Virginia Beach, VA, Ruthann of Fond du Lac, Raymond (Jan) of Newton and Robert (Sally); 11 grandchildren, Amy, Jason, Becky, Cory, Stacey, Matthew, John, Peter, Mark, Thomas and Conor and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by one son, Ronald, his twin brother, Robert, brothers, Leonard, Bernard Jr. and Frank and his sister, Margaret. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 7, 2013, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, (1444 S. 11th Street, Sheboygan) with the Rev. Ryan Pruess officiating, assisted by Deacon Michael Burch. Friends may call on Monday, at the church, from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Inurnment and military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Roger's name. The family would like to thank the staffs at Sunny Ridge and Heartland Hospice for their loving care and compassion to Roger.
